ART MENTOR EVAN V.
As an Art Mentor at Opportunity Village, Evan helps individuals with disabilities express themselves creatively and build confidence through artistic endeavors. With a background in arts and animation, Evan leads workshops and one-on-one mentoring sessions that focus on developing technical skills in various mediums like painting, drawing, and animation, while also fostering personal growth and emotional well-being. With his patient, empathetic approach, he tailors his teaching to meet the unique needs of each student, emphasizing the power of art as a means of self-expression and empowerment. Under his guidance, many students have developed impressive pieces of art and showcased their work in exhibitions, contributing to their sense of pride and accomplishment. He works collaboratively with the participants to find interests and desires they have to help guide what skills to focus on, supporting each person to find their voice within their artwork. His mentorship helps individuals with disabilities not only grow as artists but also gain a strong sense of identity and purpose.


ART MENTOR JANNEL T.
Jannel has dedicated over a decade to working at Opportunity Village. She began her journey as a Direct Support Professional in the Fine and Performing Arts department, where she worked closely with individuals to help them achieve their personal goals. After gaining valuable experience, Jannel transitioned to the Life Enrichment Coordinator role at Betty’s Village, where she continued to deepen her impact on the lives of those she served. Jannel’s love for the arts and crafts had always been at the heart of her work. With a keen eye for creativity and a talent for turning scraps into beautiful artwork, she found a way to combine her passion for art with a commitment to helping others. As an Art Mentor now, Jannel developed innovative approaches to creating art with individuals who have diverse disabilities, ensuring that each person served could express themselves on a canvas, regardless of their mobility challenges. She thrives on finding unique, adaptive ways for her students to explore their artistic talents, all while fostering a supportive and inclusive environment. Jannel has cherished the joy, laughter, and smiles that the individuals she works with bring to every session. Her positive energy and deep compassion have made her a beloved figure within the company, and she continues to bring happiness to the lives of others through the power of art.


Art Mentor Jonathan S.
Upon graduating from the University of Houston with a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology, Jon used his education and training to acquire the role of Manager of Home and Community Based Services branch of Texas Mentor, Houston; a foster care agency. His innate passion for helping others achieve greater success was a perfect fit for the role. Around this time, he began to tinker with tools, and dabbled in making small wooden creations. His creative nature, and eye for detail came together to kindle a spark which quickly turned into a burning passion for woodworking. It was at Opportunity Village where he was able to intertwine his technical skills along with his endearment for educating in the role of Woodshop Mentor.
